Product Description
12 inches long and 2 inches wide.
I have really come to rely on this tool.
Great for a range of kitchen tasks, from scrambling eggs to light mixing to flipping sausage patties.
Available in Walnut, Cherry, Apple, and Maple. Check the options menu for species availability.
It has a wide, well-rounded handle for a secure grip and a slightly curved, thin blade with a rounded tip.
Cherry is hard, fine-grained, stable, and beautiful. It produces a utensil that will last for many years with minimal care. It will darken significantly over the first year to a deep red. Lighter-colored sapwood will remain about the same color, so the contrast is striking. To hasten darkening, leave it out on the countertop in the light. Once, I was working on a panel for an exterior cabinet door and left a card scraper on it. When I returned from lunch and moved the scraper, I found a rectangular piece of lighter wood beneath it, so I had to make a new one.
Maple is very hard, very fine-grained, and stable ( it doesn’t crack or split easily). It is the king of wood for utensils. It tends to darken to a honey color over time, with the tip where it contacts food taking on a brown hue, which is quite pleasing. It will last forever with a bit of care.
Walnut wood is dark Chocolate brown with lighter cream sapwood. It is strong and will last a long time. It does not tend to darken with use, except at the tip, where it contacts food; it will become almost black. Holds up well to use.
The ones pictured are examples. The one you receive will vary a little in grain and color.
Finished with beeswax and mineral oil.
This utensil is “pre-washed,” so to speak. The grain has been raised with water during the finishing process to remove any loose fiber ends, so the spoon will remain smooth after you use it.
Care is easy, wash in hot soapy water, towel dry, and apply some mineral oil or walnut oil every couple of weeks, or you can buy some of our spoon oil finish, which is Beeswax and mineral oil. A 4 oz. jar lasts for a long time and it will help to keep your spoon looking and feeling suitable for many years.
