Product Description

Heavy duty hand made wooden spoon for mixing and stirring of Maple, Cherry, or Walnut.

This heavy duty mixing spoon is 15 inches long and has a 2 1/2 inch wide bowl.

I made this design when a customer sent me a picture of an antique spoon they liked. the ones pictured are examples so yours will vary a little in color and grain pattern. It has a medium-deep classic egg shaped bowl. It is carved stout so it will be a good mixing spoon as well as stirring. The handle is a full 3/4 of an inch thick so you can really apply the old elbow grease when mixing. It can also be used to fend off family and friends when you are making fresh tortillas or they just ask “when’s it going to be ready” one too many times. Available in various wood species. Check the drop down options menu to see what we have available. Cherry wood tends to darken quite a bit with use. It becomes a very rich red color after about a year. Maple tends to darken a little and becomes a golden honey color. Walnut doesn’t darken except at the bowl and especially at the tip of the bowl.

This utensil is “pre-washed” so to speak. During the final sanding, the grain is raised twice with hot water and then the loose fiber ends are sanded off with a finer grit of sandpaper so that in use the spoon will not get rough. Then it is soaked in a bath of melted beeswax and mineral oil at 160 degrees Fahrenheit.

Care is easy, just wash in hot soapy water and towel dry. Apply some mineral oil or Walnut oil every couple of weeks. Better yet is a mixture of 3 parts mineral oil to one beeswax. Melt them together in a double boiler and pour into a small jar. We usually sell 4-ounce jars but we are out right now. We should have some more soon.
